LATCH Welsh Children's Cancer Charity supports children receiving treatment for cancer and leukaemia at the Children's Hospital for Wales and their families.
Located at the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff, they are an independent charity supporting over 120 families year on year.
Looking back to when we were young fills us with that warm nostalgic feeling. Making new friends, running around without a care and even though we might not want to admit it sitting in a classroom and learning new things.
Some children aren’t as fortunate and are diagnosed with cancer or Leukaemia at such a young age. This is a difficult time for both the children and their families. Luckily, Latch is on hand to add a sense of normalcy back into their lives.
Located at the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff, Latch is an independent charity supporting over 120 families year on year. They know how difficult it is for both the child and family to be apart which is why they are the only UK hospital to provide complimentary accommodation to families in need on-site at the hospital.
Also, each child on the ward will receive an Ipad, especially when placed in isolation, to ensure they keep in contact with friends, their school work and social interaction.
Latch offer financial support for parents unable to work whilst their child is receiving treatment, those who require travel support as well as holiday grants to savour the precious time as a family.
Supporting Loteri Cymru in partnership with Latch can provide children with:
- new Optia Apheresis machines to harvest stem cells from children
- specialised buggies to improve the mobility of children who have lost their ability to walk due to treatment
- funding for Solid Tumour Nurse based on-site to provide support for children.
Each year, the Latch charity require £800,000 in funding to support 70 children of Wales being diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia.
